Al Kharaitiyat is a district in the Qatari municipality of Umm Salal. "Kharaitiyat" is the plural for the word "Khurat" which roughly translates to "map-like". The district was named so due to the land terrain being uneven with many winding patterns giving the appearance of a map.
The district is located close to Al Shamal Road (Q1) and thus benefits from good transport links. There are several international schools in districts nearby making it an affordable rental option for families looking for a cheaper alternative to other more expensive districts. The area has had recent major infrastructure works carried out covering an area of 1.87 million square meters. The developments to the district and neighbouring Al Foroush area include 420 housing units and an addition of 22.7 km of road and 17.4 km of sewage. Al Kharaitiyat is represented by the multi-sports club Al Kharaitiyat SC. The area is mainly residential with several mosques and a family park. The area has limited properties for rent and the prices for rental are cheaper than Doha.
