A villa is a property/house that is usually set out over two or more floors. In Qatar you can find two kinds of villas: either standalone villas or compound villas. A standalone villa is defined as a villa that has boundary walls and stands on its own private land as a detached and separate entity. A compound villa is defined as a villa that is located within a residential compound or "neighbourhood/society". Compounds vary in size and can be anything from a handful of villas to hundreds in the much larger compounds. Both have their benefits and drawbacks for example, standalone villas offer more privacy for their occupants and compound villas usually benefit from many more amenities, security and maintenance. There is a wide variety of villas available in Qatar with varying amenities and suitable for most budgets.
Although not a district in itself, the Diplomatic Area of Doha is actually part of the district of Al Dafna. Al Dafna itself is made up 2 zones of Qatar zones 60 and 61. It is zone 61 that has been labelled as Doha's Diplomatic Area, even though it does not house all the Foreign Embassies and Consular buildings as the name would suggest. The land occupied by Diplomatic Area in geographical terms is actually a "peninsula" spanning an area of approximately 2.5 square kilometres and it is surrounded for the most part by the Persian Gulf (sometimes referred to as "Arabian Gulf"). Perhaps the reason why the area is known as Diplomatic Area is due to the main road which curves around the peninsula along the coast known as Diplomatic Street covering a distance of almost 3 kilometres. Other main roads serving the area are Al Corniche Street, Omar Al Mukhtar Street, Funduq Street and Conference Centre Street.
There are many buildings of significance found in Diplomatic Area including the Doha Exhibition & Convention Centre (DECC), the Embassies of France, Jordan, Korea, Sudan, Italy, Kuwait, Pakistan, Iran & Netherlands. The Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Municipality & Environment (MME), Transport and Communications, Municipality & Urban Planning (MMUP), Labour, Energy and Industry, Energy, Administrative Development, Labour & Social Affairs (ADLSA) and Justice. The Head Offices of Kahramaa, Woqod, Asghal, Oreedoo, Qtel, QChem, Qatar Investment Authority, Qatar News Agency and some others also are found there too. There are good public transport links in the area, several buses serve the area daily as well as DECC Metro station on the Red Line. Many of the best hotels of Doha are situated in Diplomatic Area including the iconic Sheraton Grand Doha Resort and Convention Centre set in its own park grounds, Four Seasons Hotel Doha, Movenpick West Bay, Hilton Doha, Marriott Marquis City Centre amongst many others and there is also the City Centre Mall with its array of selected retailers in addition to the various supermarkets, restaurants and banks found in the area.
