Al Sakhama is a small district in the municipality of Al Daayen. The district gets its name from the Arabic word for "coal" due to the fact that the village of Al Sakhama was historically a base for coal mining operations in the area. It is located on the west border of Al Daayen and is joined to the municipality of Umm Salal, the two are separated by the Doha Expressway, otherwise known as the Al Shamal Road (Q1) and so it has good transport links.
Al Sakhama, together with 11 other districts of Al Daayen, collectively form Zone 70 of Qatar and is mainly a residential area with a few business and supermarkets. The housing in the area is cheaper than Doha and its neighbouring areas. There are many compounds with villas and apartments for rent as well as some standalone villas for rent too. It is a convenient and affordable location to find a home to rent that is within a short travelling distance to a good selection of private international schools both in Al Daayen and in Umm Salal.
