Muaither is a district in the municipality of Al Rayyan, situated in a rawda, or depression. This geographic characteristic allows water runoff to accumulate, resulting in plant growth which attracted Bedouins rearing livestock to the area. Hence the area name is derived from the Arabic word "mathar", or "place where animals are kept".
The east of the district is adjacent to the district of Baaya which is home to the Aspire Zone with its park, stadium and Villagio Mall. The district has good road links, Al Waab Street runs along the south edge of the district and Furousiya Street along its east edge. There are several parks and the community's medical needs are served by Al-Hekma Medical Complex. The district has more than 10 local and international schools for all ages and is home to Muaither SC, a multi-sports club with its own football team. Muaither Metro station will be part of Doha Metro's Green Line once construction is completed.
