Onaiza is a district in the north-east of the municipality of Doha which spans two zones of Qatar (zones 63 and 65). It is located between Al Dafna, Qatar's emerging central business district, and Lusail, a development north of Doha which is set to become the second largest city of Qatar in the near future. The district was mostly developed in the late 1990s and early 2000s as a result of its proximity to Doha's new business district and its relative distance from the more congested centre of the city. The area is known as Doha's new "foreign embassy district" and there are over 15 embassies located in the district.
The district has very good road links. Along the east and north edges of the district run Omar Al Mukhtar Street on which two Metro stations, West Bay QIC and DECC both on the Red Line are located. Al Jamia Street also known as "University Street" runs along the west edge and leads to Qatar University, Al Markhiya Street runs along the south edge of the district and Al Istiqbal Street which cuts right through Onaiza later on becomes the Lusail expressway as it crosses Omar Al Mukhtar Street on the north edge of Onaiza. The homes to rent in Onaiza are mainly apartments although there are also many large standalone luxurious villas available too.
