Properties advertised as unfurnished come with no furnishings. This differs from some other countries where unfurnished relates specifically to "furniture" only like beds, sofas, dining table etc. In Qatar when a property advert is listed as unfurnished this means that there are no appliances in the kitchen (only fitted kitchen cabinetry), or air conditioning units fixed and sometimes there are no fitted wardrobes in the bedrooms. It is important to consider this when searching for a home as these are costs that must be taken into consideration when budgeting for rental accommodation. Although the monthly rental on unfurnished properties often cheaper than properties with furnishings, once the cost of furniture is factored in, one can sometimes end up paying more overall per month. Of course, there are many things one must take into account like the duration of the tenancy, the condition of the furniture and the difference in the monthly/annual rental price.
Sometimes families prefer to buy their own furniture that meets their needs and suits their taste or when they move to Qatar, they may be moving permanently in which case they may decide to bring their furniture with them. Sometimes properties are advertised as unfurnished but for an increased monthly rental the landlord or real estate company is prepared to provide furniture. One thing to bear in mind is that if an unfurnished property is rented and furniture is bought, once the rental duration comes to an end the furniture will be an extra thing to take care of that one would not have to worry about otherwise, so this may not be the most ideal option for rentals of short or unknown duration.
A townhouse is a type of terraced housing often referred to as "row houses" as they are constructed in rows and stand side by side with shared walls usually to both sides. Most townhouses typically have more than 2 floors and commonly three in most regions. In Qatar the majority of townhouses available are located in The Pearl or very close to it. Townhouses can be found in Porto Arabia, Qanat Quartier, Abraj Quartier, Viva Bahriya and West Bay.
Al Hilal is a mixed purpose district in the municipality of Doha, Qatar because of its unique location being situated between two main circular roads of Doha, the C-Ring Road and the D-Ring Road. As a result, there are many commercial buildings in the district housing the offices of several major companies such as Doha Insurance, Qatar Islamic Insurance, Qatar Airways (Tower 1), Qatar Petrochemical Company Headquarters, Gulf Times and United Parcel Service (UPS) to name a few. There are also several branches of the main banking corporations of Qatar including Commercial Bank, QNB and Doha Bank in the district as well as several medical centres, clinics and the Al Emadi Hospital.
Other important buildings in the area to note are one of the offices for the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, the Embassy of India and Al-Khansaa Library which houses an Arabic and English collection of approximately 90,000 items. The library is dedicated for women, children, female students and official delegates. The area has many mosques and several large residential compounds that offer fantastic and extensive facilities to its residents which are owned and managed by well-known real estate companies. Villas and apartments for rent in this district are slightly more expensive than one would find outside of Doha.
